dev2next Conference

We're all set and ready to roll.

Woot.

It's Friday, the weekend right before dev2next 2024. A few speakers have arrived already at the conference hotel. Most of us are traveling towards the venue this weekend. Our volunteers are getting ready to help set up the stage and get everything in place for the start on Monday.

I am very grateful for all the help I have received so far from the amazing program committee, community leaders, and volunteers. I am very thankful to everyone who will be attending, both speakers and software practitioners. This event is for you and will not be possible without you.

We have four amazing keynotes and a panel:

Reclaiming Agility

David Thomas

I don't think any of us who were at Snowbird thought the Manifesto would spark a multibillion dollar industry. But it did, and Agile got lost in the charts, procedures, acronyms, and snake oil. But I still cherish the four simple values which motivated the rest of the manifesto, and I still believe that they can be applied to make developer's lives better (and improve their software, too). The trick is to realize that a value is a filter, not a rule. Apply them to what you do, at all levels, and you'll have gained agility. (With a small "a".)

Architecture.Next: 4 trends towards better architecture

Neal Ford, Mark Richards

What does the future of software architecture hold? In this keynote, using their magical crystal ball and reading tea leaves, Mark Richards and Neal Ford will delve into current and future trends in software architecture that you need to know to stay ahead of the curve. They define and talk about architecture Nexûs—the many intersections of architecture, and trends including observability and metrics, tensions between operational and analytical data, and how to apply concepts in AI to create reactive and autonomic systems. Come to this keynote to observe the collisions between architecture and implementation, methodologies, engineering practices, team topologies...to name a few. In addition, we illustrate the importance of viewing architecture holistically to make it understandable in this increasingly complex world.
